CRA is likely to extend the period for charitable contributions for 2024 tax year

Responding to requests of provincial premiers, the Canadian Federal Government intends to extend the deadline for claiming charity deductions to the end of February 2025, similar to the RRSP deadlines. Due to the postal strike, many charities saw a decrease in mail-in giving as many of their donors would normally send checks.

January 27 is the day that MPs return to Ottawa; however, the turmoil within the current Liberal government may affect the extension of the deadline
